Project Summary

A resolution passed by the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) in 2023 seeks to lobby the Government of Alberta to change the enabling legislation for conservation easements so they cannot exceed a term of 40 years.

The Corvus Centre reviewed the preamble, operative clause, and member background for the resolution, finding that several of the items represent misconceptions about conservation easements and their current and potential use in Alberta.
